Seattle

It was my first trip to the North West to visit my BFF Janelle.  Besides the cloudy factor, it’s a beautiful city with snow capped mountains surrounding the Puget Sound.  Some pretty awesome moments were the aquarium, the space needle, the ferry ride to Bainbridge Island, canoeing, and Quinn’s gastropub.

Eats

I had their legendary roast pork sandwich.  It was one of the best pork sandwiches I’ve ever had.  The pork was so juicy and succulent and I couldn’t seem to use portion control on this one.

Portage Bay
Great breakfast/brunch with all organic and local ingredients.

Quinn’s
We had an amazing dinner here.  I’m still thinking about it.  We had the wild boar sloppy joe, beef tartare, oxtail, seared foie gras, the bone marrow, and the pork belly.

Rio de Janeiro & Buzios Brazil

When I think of Brazil, I think of Gisele, caipirinhas, Brazilian bikini bottoms, and beaches.  It was exactly what I thought it would be, beautiful women in teeny tiny bikinis and beautiful beaches.  The best part of Brazil were the fresh coconuts and other fresh tropical fruits that just don’t taste the same in NY.  Rio was such an exciting city with 2 gorgeous beaches: Ipanema and Copacabana.  Cariocas live on the beach.  You can buy food, drinks, even sarongs on the beach.  The energy was amazing.  After our stay in Rio, we went to Buzios which is a little beach town 2 1/2 hours from Rio.  Bridgette Bardot put Buzios on the map. There was definitely an elegant feel to the place and it reminded me of the Mediterranean.  All I need to do now is to muster up the courage to wear Brazilian bikini bottoms!

Minetta Tavern

Clearly, when Minetta Tavern was voted best burger, I had to weight in.  After months of trying to get a reservation (4 months to be exact), I finally got a reservation on April 3rd.  Their 2 signature burgers are the black label burger and the Minetta burger.  I got the black label burger because I wanted to taste the meat.  They suggest that if you want cheese to get the Minetta burger.  I have never tasted a juicer burger in my life.  We also ordered the bone marrow…OMG…seriously?? I have a new found obsession with bone marrow.  What better way to finish off a great meal than with chocolate souffle.  This place blew my mind.

L’Atelier de Joel RobuchonIn a lifetime, there are meals that you will always remember.  The dinner I had at L’Atelier is on that list.  Joel Robuchon is the Godfather of French cuisine.  Every course was unique like my taste buds were awakened as if they had never tasted food before.  Every plate was like a piece of art.  What struck me while dining is how calm the kitchen was during service.  Nobody was freaking out or even sweating.  I intend to visit the New York location.

Je t’aime Paris

{Eiffel Tower at night}
These past 2 months have been life changing.  I quit my job at the end of March and I found myself with no immediate plans for the first time in my life.  I decided to take advantage of this time to travel, do all the things I’ve always wanted to do, and document it.  I’ve wanted to go to Paris ever since I was a little girl.  This trip was a dream come true.  I went with my greatest foodie friend, Lisa.  Together, we conquered Paris with our stomachs and I also welcomed 29 with open arms.  I loved everything about Paris.  The tea salons, the food, the fashion, the architecture, even the French.  It’s the perfect place to fall in love with life.  The French know how to live.  Never have I ever sat at a cafe for more than 2 hours chatting with friends, or have a 3 hour lunch with wine, or break for tea time at 3 PM and have pretty colored macaroons.  Now that I’m back in NY, I find myself searching for the best tea cafes and macaroons to relive my Parisian vacation.

Del Posto

I arrived in New York from Paris on my birthday.  My boyfriend surprised me with a fancy dinner at Del Posto.  Del Posto is another creation by Joe Bastianich, Lidia Bastianich and Mario Batali.  The space was grand and elegant.  You get the feeling that people dine here on special occasions.  We had the 5 course tasting with wine pairings.  The best parts of the dinner were the sweets we got before our desserts came out; the butter at the beginning of the meal.  I rarely touch the bread basket but I ate 2 rolls so I could spread the butter, and the little chocolates they gave us when we were leaving.

{I love date nights}
 {Special butters}
 {Lidia’s lobster salad alla Catalana with Tomato & Celery}
 {Carne cruda with truffled salsa, parmigiano-reggiano & shaved king oyster mushroom}
 {Pumpkin cappellacci with brown butter}
 {Seared duck breast, beer-braised endives, almond & laurelled melons}
 {Young lamb alla romana, garlic yogurt with ceci & swiss chard ragu}
 {Chocolate ricotta tortino, toasted Sicilian pistachios & extra virgin olive oil gelato}
 {Blueberry Pie a la mode}
