Living Room Mood Board

Livingroom_moodboardA couple of months ago, I wrote about adding some feminine touches to our masculine living room in Living With a Boy.  Since it’s 2013, I decided to get serious about it and started to create a mood board of all the elements I want to include in the living room.  The style of the living room has to be suitable for both me and my boyfriend.  We both love travel, the ocean, nature and being comfortable is very important to us.  I did want to add a few feminine touches without being outright girly so I will have to hold back a little.  Stayed tuned for the full living room update.

Living With A Boy

I’ve been living with my boyfriend and it just occurred to me that it’s mucho masculine.  I have not put any feminine touches to the apartment since I’ve moved in…except maybe an unsuccessful attempt to put this pink Eiffel Tower in our living room.

One day I got home and it was in our bedroom in a far corner.  I admit, it’s a bit much.  I decided to start in the living room since it’s the most used room in our apartment.  My boyfriend did a good job of picking a lot of neutrals and as predicted, there is a lot of brown leather and dark wood.  It makes for a great canvas.  The challenge is to add a few feminine touches to the living room without being too girly.  I found these photos as inspiration.  Most of them are gender neutral with a few pops of a color.  Stay tuned for the updated living room.

Love the Moroccan poof and the geometric throw blanket.

I love that the furniture is neutral but the blue couch and pillows add pops of color.

This living room is just so clean and casual which explains our style.

I love all the different shades of grey, the pillows and the pops of purple.

The artwork and pillows make this ordinarily beige room more vibrant.

Dream Kitchen

In New York, where your kitchen can be as big as a walk in closet, it makes you daydream about your dream kitchen.  I spend a lot of time in the kitchen so I definitely have a wish list for my dream kitchen.  I would love an open kitchen so that when I’m cooking, my friends and family can be hanging out in the same room.  My kitchen now can only fit 2 people at a time since it’s a galley kitchen (pictures above).  There’s also no direct sunlight so I rarely photograph my food in there.  I’m obsessed with white kitchens but I’m open to black if the design is amazing.  Since I’m a dreamer, here are my dream kitchens.  You can also check out more on my Pinterest.

In a Good Mood

Ever since watching Project Runway, I’ve been wanting to go to Mood.  With a Living Social deal on hand, I was on a mission to find fabric for a tablecloth that I am going to use for a holiday party.  I was overwhelmed by the selection.  They had every kind of fabric you could imagine.  I’m not an indecisive person but I was in Mood for almost 2 hours wandering aimlessly.  I think I had a lost puppy look on my face because every 10 minutes, a staff member would ask me if I needed help (they are very friendly).  The fabric that I really wanted was a silvery brocade that was $50 a yard-yikes!!  I could’ve bought a tablecloth at Crate and Barrel for that price!  The one I ended up buying looks like there are ornaments on it (picture below).  My inner Tim Gunn said, “Make it work!”

Home Office Inspirations

The photo above is of my “office” which is also the dining room and part of the living room.  Living in an apartment in New York doesn’t allow many of us to have a separate room for an office, so we have multi-functional spaces!  I have a few staples while I work: 1) Music on my ladybug speakers 2) notepad 3) fresh flowers because they make me happy and 4) lime, cucumber and basil water because regular is boring.  Sometimes when I have writer’s block, I look at pictures of offices that inspire me to create a better space for myself.  These were the recent ones I’ve found and I’ve been daydreaming of the day when I’ll have an office or a closet (you’ll see what I mean).
