The Restaurant at AGT

restaurantagt1It’s really hard writing about frivolous things like food when there are tragedies happening around the world.  My blog has always been a positive and creative outlet for me but I would be lying if I didn’t say that I’m completely effected by horrible events like the one that happened yesterday in Boston.  When things like this happen it just sucks and it forces me to look inward and appreciate all the people in my life.  I don’t want evil acts of terror to ruin my positive outlook on life.  I want to build beautiful memories with the ones I love.  Which brings me to a very recent beautiful memory…

For my belated birthday, my friends Grace, Betty and Heidi took me out to dinner at the Restaurant at All Good Things.  I’ve written about All Good Things (AGT) here.  When I walked into AGT, everyone knew I was miss buttercup.  They remembered me from the last time I was there.  It was very surreal and awesome.  Dinner at the restaurant is a 6 course no changes and no substitution prix fixe menu.  I loved it because it was for the true food lover who isn’t shy about bold combinations and flavors.  I dine out quite often and I rarely get wow’d by meals anymore.  This dinner was goosebump inducing which means that I got goosebumps twice during dinner because it was so good.  It wasn’t just me, Betty got them too!  It was a dinner so special and a meal that was beyond compare…I’m still thinking about it.

It’s hard to pick a favorite dish because they were all so good but I have to say that dessert was out-of-control-I-didn’t-know-what-was-happening.  It was something I’ve never had before.  It was sweet, tart, earthy, smooth, crunchy, creamy all in one dessert.  Mind-blown.  I almost didn’t want to write about the dinner because I don’t want everyone to know.  Chef Tate, you’re a true artist.  Thank you for the most memorable dinner!  Lovely ladies, thank you for one of the best nights I’ve had in a long time.  Champagne, great food, great conversation, laughter and goosebumps…I couldn’t have asked for a better present.

All Good Things in Tribeca

AGT1My girlfriend Grace invited me out to her ‘hood, Tribeca for a girl’s night at All Good Things.  The best way I can describe All Good Things to you is that it’s a smaller version of Chelsea Market without all the tourists.  It was a picturesque Friday night in Tribeca.  The snow was just starting to stick to the ground and people were just getting off from work.  I was the first to arrive and immediately recognized Cavaniola’s gourmet cheese.  The first time I went was this past summer in Sag Harbor.  I’ve had some of the best cheeses from there.  I also saw Blue Marble ice cream which I’ve been dying to try but haven’t gotten out to Brooklyn.  I knew this was going to be a great night.

I made my way to the wine bar and ordered a glass of wine.  As each of the ladies started arriving, the staff knew everyone’s name (cue the Cheers theme song).  I loved the low key vibe and it felt like a cool neighborhood hangout.  Let’s not forget the food.  We started with a meat and cheese plate from Cavaniola’s and oysters from the seafood stand.  The standout dishes to me were the cod milt (google it) and the sea urchin and liver, which gave Betty goosebumps it was that good.  They were so delicious and memorable that I’m still thinking about them.  When you do google cold milt, don’t judge until you’ve tried it yourself!

In the midst of all the eating, I decided to take a dessert break and get ice cream from Blue Marble.  I ordered a scoop of burnt sugar, which tasted like crème brûlée, and a scoop of coconut.  I’m not even exaggerating when I say that it was the most delicious ice cream I’ve ever tasted.  It’s probably because they use all organic ingredients.  Blue Marble has the only certified organic ice cream plant in New York City; Sunset Park, Brooklyn to be more exact.  Even though it’s freezing outside, I’m still dreaming of that ice cream…

I love discovering new food destinations and this one should definitely be at the top of your list.  It’s exciting to have all these top notch food purveyors all in one place.  I want to say a special thank you to Chef Tate and the amazing staff at All Good Things.  You pretty much let me run around like a kid in a candy store and take pictures of everything.  I’ll be back!

Breakfast at Locanda Verde

{Lemon ricotta pancakes}

There are some mornings when there’s a necessity for a fancy breakfast to break out of the rut.  Most mornings, I have my usual oatmeal with coffee.  It’s fine most of the time but I was just not feeling it yesterday.  I was in need of eggs and pancakes.  I met my girlfriend at Locanda Verde, Robert De Niro’s Italian inspired restaurant in Tribeca.  We’ve both dined at Locanda Verde for dinner (which was amazing by the way) and wanted to try their breakfast.  I have to say, it was really nice to eat breakfast at a near empty restaurant that is usually busting at the seems at night.  What I loved about the breakfast here is that they serve all your usual suspects like eggs, omelets and pancakes just dressed up with fancy ingredients.  It’s that extra special touch that makes an ordinary breakfast into a fancy one.  If only everyday was like this, starting the day off with a great girlfriend and a yummy breakfast!

 {Pastries and coffee}

 {Drinking coffee while I decide what to get}

 {Zucchini frittata-roasted tomato, goat cheese, fiore di zucca}

 {Uova modenese-cotechino hash, spinach, tomato hollandaise}

Bubby at Bubby’s

My boyfriend calls me Bubby so when I heard that there was a restaurant in Tribeca called Bubby’s, I had to go (it’s been around since 1990).  They serve American comfort food which was perfect for today since it was so blistering cold outside.  I love the decor…it reminds me of a modern farmhouse with wooden tables and mason jars.  I had the grilled cheese with bacon, matzo ball soup and red velvet cake for dessert…so much for my detox!!  It’s a seriously cute place and the food is good too.  I’m planning my next trip for brunch!

{They had me at bacon}

{I love the mini chalk boards}

{I wanted to put this in my purse}

{Look at that gooey cheese}

{I guess I will share…}

{Love macchiatos}
