Clam chowder has a signature taste that’s all its own. A perfectly made bowl has a tantalizing blend of creaminess and with subtle hints of seafood flavor.
For those that love it, there’s really no substitute for this unique food.
While having a big bowl of it is certainly satisfying, sometimes you might want a little something extra go with it, round things out and consider it a truly complete meal.
And when it comes to clam chowder, few things are better suited to go with it than sandwiches.
Of course, there’s a million sandwich options out there so what we hope to do is share a few ideas that you might enjoy with your next bowl.
We’ve got all kinds for you to try but first, let’s take a look at the criteria we used for picking what sandwich goes with clam chowder.
Ideally, the type of sandwich you pick shouldn’t compete with the seafood flavor of the clam chowder but instead should complement it as much as possible.
So, sandwiches with other kinds of seafood or fish would fit into this category. While there might be some people who’d love to sit down to bowl of chowder and a tuna melt, for most of us this would be too much emphasis on seafood to be satisfying.
Also, overly sweet sandwiches probably won’t be a good option either. While a hint of sweetness in the form of a thin spread or caramelized ingredients are great, sandwiches with large amounts of jelly, jam or other fruit wouldn’t be the best choice.
Piled high with savory meats, cheese and tasty spreads, cold sandwiches make a great choice for pairing with a warm bowl of chowder. We’ve picked a few of our favorites for you to check out!
