Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 8 ounces cream cheese softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 cup confectioners' sugar for rolling

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F. It's a good idea to line your making sheets with parchment paper so you can remove your cookies easily when they're done baking.
  • Take a large mixing bowl and combine the ingredients for the base of the cookies. Cream together the softened butter, cream cheese, and granulated sugar. Mix everything until it's nice and smooth.
  • Once the mixture is creamy, add the egg and vanilla to it. Beat everything together until it's fully added.
  • Take a separate bowl and whisk the dry ingredients together. Mix the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, and baking powder. When you're done, add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients gradually. Keep going until a soft dough forms.
  • Using a tablespoon (or a cookie scoop if you have one), form the dough into balls. Coat each ball in confectioners' sugar by rolling it.
  • Once the balls are ready, space them about 2 inches apart on the baking sheets you prepared earlier. Put them in the oven and bake them for 10-12 minutes. You'll know the cookies are ready when they have a crackled appearance on top.
  • Remove the cookies from the oven and transfer them to a wire rack to cool. Once they've cooled completely, they're ready to be enjoyed!
